Face Mask Policy:
Makinna's career at BU was strong, however it was her toughness and dedication to the team after returning a week later receiving a line drive to the face requiring surgery that she will probably be most remembered for.
During a game with Army West Point Academy Makinna was hit with a line drive to the face. The 90mph impact at 35 feet broke her maxilla, immediately removed 8 teeth, and yet still impacted several more teeth. Aside from the blow to the face, her mental state diminished during the lengthy healing process that followed. As a result of the injuries, which were a direct result of not wearing face mask, Makinna suffered from depression, poor body image, as well as deep financial complications. Currently, the ASA and PGF do not have rules regarding infielders wearing masks, however, it is Makinna's personal mission to save as many athletes as possible from an outcome as serious as hers was, and it's a simple $30 solution: WEAR A FACE MASK.
